A Guide To The Samsung Wave

Posted on 03 July 2010 by cellphone

Combining the basic operations of low-end phones with the convenient features of higher priced smartphones, the Samsung Wave is considered a mid-range phone. This makes it affordable to many budgets. The 1 GHz Hummingbird processor, a Samsung original, allows the Wave to zoom around the net and instantly select apps at a previously unheard of clip. This alone sets it apart from many other mid-range phones and is packaged in a small frame, accommodating easy carrying. The handset measures 108.9mm x 53.5mm x 10.9mm and weighs a mere 118g, ensuring the user won?t feel the need to put the phone on wheels rather than in their pocket.

One of the phone?s most impressive features is its Super Amoled screen. Problems with viewing items on the screen are eliminated by its substantial 3.3-inch size. Images look breathtaking on the screen?s 800 x 480 pixel resolution and an incredible 16 million colors. This alone makes web browsing a pleasurable experience because pages are displayed in comparable quality to high end computer monitors. Because the screen is the focal point of the phone, only three buttons appear on the front, allowing the Wave?s top quality the room it deserves.

The TouchWiz overlay is the user?s method of navigating the touch screen which will please those that have prior experience with Samsung products. Some new users may have some catching up to do when learning the TouchWiz, but it is fairly intuitive and doesn?t take long to learn. Accuracy is obviously important on a touch screen, but some phones? screens are too sensitive. The Wave?s is not, and maintains an accuracy not found in other mid-range models.

Speaking of apps, some critics have pointed to the Wave?s relatively small app store. Fewer applications are to be expected for phones powered by a brand new OS. As more models are released that the Bada system supports, more apps will be possible. In fact, in addition to the ubiquitous Facebook and Twitter apps, there are thousands more awaiting approval.

The Wave comes complete with two home screen modes that provide several options for all sorts of tastes. One mode supports numerous widgets on any of five provided home screens. The other mode is reminiscent of a basic menu that offers three additional screens. Facebook, Twitter, and email feature are found there.

The Wave capably and competently achieves the goals set forth by Samsung. Intended to unleash the Bada OS upon the world, it does just that in a package that will not overwhelm the user as they explore all that Bada can do. With an affordable price and an intuitive interface, the Wave fulfills its initial promise.

The long awaited release of Nokia s new N8 is almost upon us. Showcasing the brand’s new Symbian ^3 operating system, the Nokia N8 has a vast array of features that will tempt even the most dedicated Apple iPhone fan.

Nokia are continuing their popular collaboration with the long standing optics specialists Carl Zeiss in the new Nokia N8 with a 12 mega pixel camera incorporated into the design. They are also offering full 720p HDMI support for the recording and playback of home movies. One particular standout feature (as if HDMI support is not enough) is the use of Dolby surround sound on video playback.

Alongside the expected features of WLAN and the ability to work as a data modem, the Nokia N8 also has WiFi capability on b, g and n bands which means a very fast connection is possible. GPRS is, as always, supported also. The internal hard drive will be 16 gigabytes, with an expandable external bay able to hold a micro SD card up to the size of 32 gigabytes. Ultimately, this will mean possibly 50 hours of music playback in offline mode.

The new Nokia N8 is certainly able to compete directly with the likes of the iPhone and Blackberry, with it’s mass of downloadable content from the Ovi Store in the form of widgets and applications, most notably in the shape of Web TV. Using Web TV the user can view movies available from providers such as National Geographic, E! Entertainment, CNN and Paramount.

The new Symbian ^3 operating system that is incorporated into the new Nokia N8 is the latest development of the world’s most used mobile phone platform. New additions are an upgraded 2D and 3D graphics hardware support, plus improved support for multi-touch features such as flick scrolling and pinch zoom.

The 3.5″ liquid crystal touch screen display of the Nokia N8 will hold a resolution of 640 x 360 and contain up to 16.7 million colors. There are also a number of sensors incorporated into the design which should makes things much more interesting, such as an accelerometer, a digital compass, an ambient light detector and a proximity sensor.

To summarize, the Nokia N8 promises to deliver the customer a very convincing rival of either the popular iPhone or Blackberry, containing features that bring it right to the forefront of modern mobile phone technology. Once it is released, there will be nothing to stop it helping Nokia maintain their status as the biggest mobile phone manufacturer on the planet.

Put The Phone Away While Driving

Posted on 10 January 2010 by cellphone

For drivers that send out text messages while driving their chances of crashing are six times greater. A new study showed that texting or talking on the mobile while driving is unsafe. The study was done using a driving simulator, but how it relates to results on the road are unknown. But the fact is these activities can leave you with a cruched car.

With texting, drivers in the simulation decreased their following distance and had delayed reaction times, which means it took a longer time for them to hit the brakes. Driver?s median reaction time fell by 30 percent when they texted and nine percent when they were chatting on the phone in contrast to when they just drove. They had less control over their car and were more likely to get in a collision.

Are you worried about others health and safety? Get your Public Safety Degree and help protect the lives of others.

Researchers behind the study published their results in the journal Human Factors and declared that ?drivers apparently attempt to divide attention between a phone conversation and driving, adjusting the processing priority of the two activities depending on task demands.? Well this doesn?t take a scientist to comprehend. I could have told you that. It?s the same as if you?re trying to eat while driving. If you drop on yourself or the floor, or try to dip french fries or chicken nuggets in the sauce the results are the same. Your attention isn?t entirely on the road and that can be dangerous for everyone.

Distractions while driving can be fatal. Even driving with other people in the car is less disturbing than talking on the phone. Texting is the worst though because it takes your eyes off the road as you try to send and receive messages. It moves your attention from the road to the phone and that split second of change can be deadly. When drivers create, read, or get a text their reaction times are much slower than even when they?re chatting on the phone. And simulations found that reading messages affected braking more than composing messages did.

The fact is that texting may be important to teenagers and young professionals but it is dangerous. It is illegal in many states because of all the crashes that have occurred. Some may be minor and others serious. But just put the phone away when you?re driving because if an accident occurs you or someone else could be killed because of your recklessness and carelessness. Nothing, especially a text message is worth hurting someone.

Laws can ban the use of using cell phones while driving but in the end you have to decide whether you?re going to obey the law or not. Just like they say don?t ?drink and drive? also keep in mind not to ?drive while texting? because it can be just as dangerous. Both tickets and the claim after an accident can be expensive. So wait until arriving at your destination to pull out the iPhone.
